NCSIE: Storage Installation Engineer, ONTAP
Yes, NCSIE exists: it validates the physical and logical work needed to install, expand, test, document, and hand off an ONTAP cluster.
Exam codeNetApp’s current public product page confirms the credential but does not expose a stable numeric code in its page text. Use its “Register” action to confirm the live code in CertCenter. NCDA is recommended, not required.
What it covers
- Installation preparation, tools, site readiness, physical cabling, and controller components.
- ONTAP updates, cluster creation/expansion, aggregates, and node operations.
- Cluster networking and switch cabling/configuration.
- Peering, hardening, validation, troubleshooting resources, documentation, and customer handoff.
Lab checklist
Rehearse a cluster build from worksheets through cable maps, cluster setup, network validation, node addition/removal, storage assignment, and a clean handoff package. Use Hardware Universe and platform installation guides for the exact model.
