What the CVE records say
CVE-2016-5374 — NetApp Data ONTAP 9.0 and 9.1 before 9.1P1 allows remote authenticated users that own SMB-hosted data to bypass intended sharing restrictions by leveraging improper handling of the owner_rights ACL entry.
Impact
ONTAP 9.0 and 9.1 do not prevent the owner of SMB hosted data from modifying the ACL when the owner_rights ACL entry is present, thus defeating any previously configured security configuration.

- If exploitation is listed as "active", treat remediation as urgent and review exposure (management LIFs, ONTAP S3, SnapMirror endpoints).
- Harden in parallel: security hardening baseline and ransomware protection on ONTAP.
