vifmgr.reach.err: LIF Reachability Problems
A data or cluster LIF is up, but clients or peer nodes cannot reliably reach it; EMS reports vifmgr.reach.err.
What ONTAP is telling you
VifMgr detected a reachability failure for a network interface. The event is evidence about the affected LIF/path, not proof of one universal cause; broadcast-domain membership, port/link state, VLANs, routes, and upstream switching must be checked.
How to confirm
event log show -message-name vifmgr.reach.err -time >1h
network interface show -fields vserver,lif,address,status-admin,status-oper,curr-node,curr-port,home-node,home-port
network port show -fields node,port,link,health-status,health-degraded-reasons
network port broadcast-domain show
network route show -vserver <svm>Output shape: The LIF view pairs administrative/operational status with current and home placement. Port output supplies link and health reasons; broadcast-domain output shows the ports ONTAP considers layer-two peers.
The fix
Repair the evidence-backed layer: link/VLAN/switch configuration, incorrect broadcast-domain membership, route, or LIF placement. Revert a displaced LIF only after its home port is healthy and an eligible failover target.
How to prevent it
Keep broadcast domains aligned with real layer-two reachability, validate failover targets after cabling/VLAN changes, and monitor port health plus vifmgr EMS events.
